Product Description
The Angiplast Paclitaxel Administration Set is a critical tool for oncology departments, specifically engineered for the infusion of chemotherapy drugs like Paclitaxel (Taxol) that require strict filtration and material compatibility. Unlike standard IV sets, this device incorporates a 1.2 / 0.2 micron filter to remove any potential precipitates or particulate matter, ensuring only the pure medication enters the patient’s bloodstream.
Crucially, the tubing is made from DEHP-Free / Low-Sorption materials. Since Paclitaxel is formulated in a vehicle (Cremophor EL) that can leach plasticizers like DEHP from standard PVC tubing, this set effectively eliminates that risk, preserving the integrity of the chemotherapy regimen and protecting the patient from toxic byproducts. The set is also equipped with an automatic air-venting system, ensuring consistent flow and reducing the risk of air embolisms.
Specifications:
-
Filter Media: 1.2 / 0.2 Micron (Hydrophilic)
-
Tubing Material: DEHP-Free / Low Sorption (Non-PVC compatible)
-
Priming: Self and Fast Priming with Auto-Venting
-
Pressure Rating: Up to 45 psi (3.1 bar)
-
Usage Duration: Up to 96 hours bacteria retention
-
Sterility: EO Sterile, Non-Toxic, Pyrogen-Free

How to Use
Step 1: Inspection & Preparation Verify the package integrity. Remove the set from the sterile peel pack. Ensure the flow regulator clamp is closed.
Step 2: Spiking the Container Insert the ISO 8536-4 compliant spike firmly into the chemotherapy bag or glass bottle. If using a glass bottle, ensure the spike vent is open (if applicable).
Step 3: Priming the Filter Open the flow regulator. The “Self and Fast Priming” feature allows the solution to fill the tubing and the filter housing automatically. Note: Ensure the filter housing is oriented correctly (usually arrow pointing down or as marked) to allow the automatic air vent to expel air bubbles.
Step 4: Connection Once the line is fully primed and free of air, close the clamp. Connect the ISO 594 compliant Luer Lock connector to the patient’s vascular access device (CVC or peripheral line).
Step 5: Administration Set the flow rate as prescribed. The 0.2-micron filter will function continuously to retain bacteria and particles for up to 96 hours.
Step 6: Disposal Upon completion, dispose of the entire set as hazardous chemotherapy waste according to hospital safety protocols.
Who Is This For?
-
Oncology Centers & Cancer Institutes Primary users for the administration of Taxanes (Paclitaxel, Docetaxel) and other chemotherapy agents requiring filtration.
-
Infusion Clinics Outpatient centers administering complex biologicals or chemotherapy.
-
Hospital Pharmacies For compounding and preparing chemotherapy administration kits.
-
Clinical Trials Research settings requiring precise, non-interacting delivery systems for investigational drugs.
Benefits
-
Drug Integrity The use of DEHP-free materials prevents the chemotherapy agent from absorbing into the tubing or leaching toxic plasticizers, ensuring the patient receives the full, safe dose.
-
Superior Filtration The 0.2-micron filter acts as a final barrier against bacteria, endotoxins, and drug precipitates, which is vital for immunocompromised cancer patients.
-
Nursing Efficiency Automatic air-venting and fast priming features significantly reduce setup time, allowing nurses to focus more on patient care.
-
Versatile Compatibility Compatible with standard infusion pumps and gravity feeds due to its pressure withstand capability (45 psi).

FAQs
Q: Why is a 0.2-micron filter necessary for Paclitaxel? A: Paclitaxel can form precipitates, and a 0.2-micron filter is the standard requirement to trap these particles and ensure sterility before the drug reaches the patient.
Q: Is this set compatible with infusion pumps? A: Yes, the set is designed to withstand pressures up to 45 psi (3.1 bar), making it suitable for use with many pressure-based infusion systems.
Q: What does “DEHP-Free” mean and why does it matter? A: DEHP is a plasticizer used in standard PVC. Paclitaxel’s solvent can dissolve DEHP, causing it to leach into the patient’s blood. This set uses materials without DEHP to prevent this health risk.
Q: Can this set be used for other drugs? A: Yes, it can be used for any medication requiring 0.2-micron filtration and low-sorption tubing, such as certain antibiotics or monoclonal antibodies.
